Well if you’ve been following this blog at all in the past, or follow me on Twitter, or know me in real life then you’d know that I am pregnant, currently expecting Baby Girl #2. I know I should have started this earlier, life kind of got in the way, but I wanted to do like a diary-type thing chronicling what happens every week up until “Labor Day” and also afterwards, only because it’s been so long since I’ve had a baby it feels like my first all over again, haha. Plus I want to make this baby feel just as special as Baby Girl #1. I suppose I kind of slacked off and then had other things to do and life got in the way, but I’m starting it NOW, so better late than never!
Over the past 22 weeks, I can honestly say I’m most happy that I am not suffering as much as I did in the beginning. For the first 10-15 weeks, I had MAJOR “Morning” Sickness (they should really change that phrase to ALL DAY SICKNESS) and acid reflux (on account of my pre-existing GERD), I swear, I thought I was dying! I basically lived on toast & eggs because it was the only thing I could keep down that didn’t give me acid reflux. Of course I did my best to hold it together and be a WOMAN about it, not complain and all, because my husband and I had been trying for over a year to get pregnant and right when I least expected it, I got pregnant. Another downside of the first few months though was that I was in Miami for school so my family wasn’t with me, which was a bummer.
Anyways, once I got past all that mess, I went to see my OB/GYN at Abington Hospital, which was where I had my first baby. They changed their location and had all new doctors and nurses but I didn’t think anything of it because it is a good hospital and I wanted to have both my babies there. My visits so far have been normal, all my lab work and exams are great and nothing out of the ordinary, but, I just don’t get that sense of security or whatever. Well, long story short, my best friend told me she had her baby there and after he was delivered they had some kind of accident and ended up leaving a huge scar on his calf, which is terrible. Couple that with my other friend telling me they had budget cuts and hired all new people, well I finally decided I would switch to Holy Redeemer Hospital, where another friend had her baby and said it was a great experience. They are a smaller hospital with friendly staff so it should be good. I’ll let you know how that goes though after my first visit!
So for this week, things are going quite smoothly. I recently regained my appetite during the past few weeks so I can basically eat anything. I don’t have any cravings though, which is weird since I craved Mac N’ Cheese all the time with my first baby. I do, however, like eating more Asian/home-cooked meals rather than eating out, which is great. I’ve been a good mother-to-be and have been drinking my daily glass of milk and having juice whenever I can, also drinking insane amounts of water (and peeing it all out within an hour). All of my ultrasounds were normal and the doctors told me she is growing just fine, she & my uterus are doing what they should be doing (they deserve a pat on the back, don’t they?!?!), which makes me happy.
She started kicking a few weeks back, only slightly, and the movements have become more frequent and harder, which makes me so very happy. Nothing brings me more joy than to feel the kicks & flutters of my little baby, which shows she’s healthy & active. The only complaint I have, or rather, that my husband has, is that she refuses to kick or move when someone touches my belly. She’ll kick up a storm, making me feel like she’s doing cartwheels in there, but once a hand is on the bump, she’s a still as a rock?!?! Can we say stubborn, haha????
As for me and my body, well here’s how I’m experiencing things. Everyday I wake up to a very sore and aching pelvic area, especially above my pubic bone, which drives me crazy because it’s a little too early to be stretching the muscles & ligaments preparing for labor now! It mostly happens after I’ve been laying down for an extended period of time, which is weird because you’d think it’d be if I was standing or sitting. But no, my body reserves the standing/sitting aches & pains for my lower back. Currently, I am studying for my oh-so-important board exams, which means I’m stuck in a chair for most of the day just staring at books, notes, and the computer. So of course my back aches, my eyes hurt, and I get headaches and dizzy spells that would make you say WTH?!?! Yes, and with the thought of my last pregnancy in mind, I check my feet every so often to make sure they haven’t turned into elephant-sized feet yet, because I know it’s bound to happen sooner or later.
What I am enjoying this week is that my husband has been extra attentive and considerate, cooking and cleaning so I don’t have to lift a finger. He says I’m carrying his child so that’s all the work I should be doing (that and studying of course). How did I get so lucky??? Love him!!!
I guess that’s it for “The Bump Tales” this week! Tune in next week for more news & musings.
BTW, this is the introductory post so that’s why it’s so long, all the subsequent posts won’t be this crazy so keep checking back every week, and if you stuck it out this far, you’re an angel & I adore you!!! And I will end each post with this:
New This Week: Difficulty breathing (typical since the baby is growing & taking up all that space in there), shirt rolls up ALL THE TIME (kinda embarassing), pants are tight (I was hoping to get away with it all pregnancy but now IDK), & I like sweets again (Yay! I thought I was messed up there for a minute, haha).
