Is falling in love the beginning . . . or the end?
In Ethan Wate's hometown there lies the darkest of secrets . . .
There is a girl. Slowly, she pulled the hood from her head . . . Green eyes, black hair. Lena Duchannes.
There is a curse. On the Sixteenth Moon, the Sixteenth Year, the Book will take what it's been promised. And no one can stop it.
In the end, there is a grave.
Lena and Ethan become bound together by a deep, powerful love. But Lena is cursed and on her sixteenth birthday, her fate will be decided. Ethan never even saw it coming.

When I first saw this book I thought it was going to be about demons and creatures (as per the title) and of course, after reading the back summary, a cute little love story. It turned out to be a whole different thing, with a love story in there still. What I liked most about this book was that it was told from a guy’s perspective. Most books are about a paranormal guy and a “not-so-average” girl who falls in love with him. This time it was the other way around and I found it very refreshing, especially seeing how guys tend to think some hilarious thoughts and share some funny moments with their friends that is very different than how girls act.

Another thing I enjoyed about this book is that Lena and her family turn out to be Casters, or witches, and I’ve always had a thing for magic and spells. The story is about Lena and Ethan falling in love, the consequences and problems that arise with that, and Lena’s fate as a Caster in the Duchannes family. I also enjoyed the secondary characters. Although not much detail is given about them, there’s enough there that will entertain you and the story progresses in a way that will keep you flipping the pages to find out what happens next. The ending is kind of sad and I didn’t expect it to turn out that way, but the book as a whole was well-written and descriptive. I really enjoyed it and can’t wait to read the next book in the series.
