Haven still blames Ever for the death of her boyfriend Roman, no matter how hard Ever’s tried to convince her it was an accident. Now she’s determined to take Ever down…and destroy Damen and Jude along the way. Her first step is to tear Ever and Damen apart—and she has just the ammunition to do it.
Hidden in one of Ever’s past lives is a terrible secret about Damen—a secret that illuminates new facts about her relationship with Jude, but that’s so dark and brutal it might be enough to drive her and Damen apart once and for all. As Ever faces her greatest fears about the guy she wants to spend eternity with, she’s thrust into a deadly clash with Haven that could destroy them all.
Now it’ll take everything she’s got—and bring out powers she never knew she had—to face down her most formidable enemy. But in order to win, she must first ask herself: is her own survival worth dooming Haven to an eternity of darkness in the Shadowland? And will learning the truth about Damen’s past hold the key to their future?

This is the 5th installment in The Immortals Series by Alyson Noel and it just might be her best one yet. Night Star has all the makings of an excellent book – danger, drama, love, mystery, and wonderful characters that you’ll surely enjoy. I honestly couldn’t put this book down, wanting to know what happens next and how it will all end.
Alyson did a fantastic job developing Haven as Ever’s ultimate “Immortal” enemy. Back when I read Blue Moon, I honestly thought Roman would be a force to reckon with, but Haven takes the cake. She drove me so crazy and I knew she would become power hungry and insane, but the way it all played out was interesting, unique, and there were many moments that I did not see coming. Noel defiinitely knows how to create a character you will truly hate, but also feel sorry for and realize the truth behind all their wrong-doings and evil ways.
What I enjoyed most about this book was how Ever finally grows up and becomes this amazingly strong and smart person who has truly learned from her mistakes and realized how she should look at the world. After everything that she’s been through, most of which she did to herself, it made me really happy to see her grow from that, without which, she would never be able to defeat her enemies. Here, you see Ever as a mature woman who comes to grips with her reality and her destiny. I also loved how Miles plays a big role in this book, his character is one I’ve always enjoyed, with actions and drama that I didn’t expect, but reveled in.
Probably the only thing that didn’t live up to expectations was the “big secret” that Damen was hiding. I won’t reveal it, but to me, it didn’t seem like that big of a deal. Yes, it was questionable if you didn’t know the whole story, and a bit sad, but was it really enough to drive them apart? I don’t think it was a big enough problem to affect two people who are truly in love as Ever and Damen seem to be, but then again, Ever did always have a problem trusting Damen and his love, but the good thing is you’ll see how that all changes and what really solidifies their relationship. And Jude, ah Jude, it’s crazy how deeply entangled he keeps getting in Ever’s life, both in the last book and this one.
After reading this book I immediately went to the next, and last one, Everlasting. I’m eager to see how it all ends and if Ever and Damen can ever truly be together. I swear, it seems like I’ve been waiting for their “special night” for as long as they have!
