Even angels make mistakes in this page-turning epic romance
When her parents are murdered before her eyes, sixteen-year-old Helen Cartwright finds herself launched into an underground London where a mysterious organization called the Dictata controls the balance of good and evil. Helen learns that she is one of three remaining angelic descendants charged with protecting the world's past, present, and future. Unbeknownst to her, she has been trained her whole life to accept this responsibility. Now, as she finds herself torn between the angelic brothers protecting her and the devastatingly handsome childhood friend who wants to destroy her, she must prepare to be brave, to be hunted, and above all to be strong, because temptation will be hard to resist, even for an angel.
Michelle Zink masterfully weaves historical fantasy with paranormal romance to create a gripping tale of love and betrayal.
I received this book for free from The Author in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
I’ll admit, when I first heard about this book and looked at the cover I wasn’t really interested, Yes, I judge books by their cover even though I’ve learned that I shouldn’t and am sometimes surprised. This would be one of those times where I basically floored with how awesome and enthralling this book is.
From the very first page, Michelle Zink drew me in and I found myself flipping the pages madly trying to see what would happen next. There were so many times where I was literally holding my breath, captured by the moment and totally involved with the characters and scenes. Zink’s writing is beautiful and engrossing, with just the right amount of detail to paint a vivid picture, without being too wordy. There was just enough action so you won’t be bored, and enough background information so you won’t be confused, too.
And her characters! Helen appears to be weak and timid at first, but she’s quite strong and I loved that she’s a bit snarky and stubborn, too. Oh, and the love triangle! Griffin is such a sweetheart, but you can’t help but feel for the mysterious and handsome Raum. Those intimate moments with Helen had me all tingly and begging for more.
A breathtakingly incredible book I’d call a real page-turner. This was my first historical fiction novel and I really loved it, so I’m eager to read more in this genre and also more from Michelle. I’m only hoping there will be another book in this series as I’d love to see how Helen’s life unfolds after her revelations in this book and I definitely want more steamy scenes between her and Griffin and Raum. I’m hooked!
