In the magical underworld of Victorian London, Tessa Gray has at last found safety with the Shadowhunters. But that safety proves fleeting when rogue forces in the Clave plot to see her protector, Charlotte, replaced as head of the Institute. If Charlotte loses her position, Tessa will be out on the street—and easy prey for the mysterious Magister, who wants to use Tessa’s powers for his own dark ends.
With the help of the handsome, self-destructive Will and the fiercely devoted Jem, Tessa discovers that the Magister’s war on the Shadowhunters is deeply personal. He blames them for a long-ago tragedy that shattered his life. To unravel the secrets of the past, the trio journeys from mist-shrouded Yorkshire to a manor house that holds untold horrors, from the slums of London to an enchanted ballroom where Tessa discovers that the truth of her parentage is more sinister than she had imagined. When they encounter a clockwork demon bearing a warning for Will, they realize that the Magister himself knows their every move—and that one of their own has betrayed them.
Tessa finds her heart drawn more and more to Jem, but her longing for Will, despite his dark moods, continues to unsettle her. But something is changing in Will—the wall he has built around himself is crumbling. Could finding the Magister free Will from his secrets and give Tessa the answers about who she is and what she was born to do?
As their dangerous search for the Magister and the truth leads the friends into peril, Tessa learns that when love and lies are mixed, they can corrupt even the purest heart.

Now this is what I’m talking about! If you read my review of Clockwork Angel, you could tell how hesitant I was about this series. After reading this book, I’m literally dying for more. I’ll just start off by saying I’m Team “On the Fence” because I love both guys! But I have to admit, that one scene with Jem, whew! Oh, Jem!

Anyways, I devoured this book and truly loved every minute of it. What I wanted to capture me from the first book, this one did to a T. I have to believe now that Clare was truly laying the setting in the first book and putting all the drama and action in this one. Here you have the Shadowhunters face off against a myriad of clockwork creatures, as well as paranormal forces, the action that I love so much.

You also get more romance and love as you see Tessa slowly fall for Jem, although secretly longing for Will. Clare does an excellent job at creating a very emotional and torturous love triangle where I truly feel for each guy and honestly couldn’t even decide which one I cared for more. Sure, Will is harsh and impetuous, but he’s also passionate and loyal. Jem is sweet and smart, but also cunning and sexy. One moment I was breathless over Jem, the next I was craving for some more Will. I honestly don’t know how Tessa will choose, and I don’t know if I’ll be truly happy either way, since I want all of them to be happy, but I know that won’t happen.

I’m very curious to see how it all ends and if you weren’t convinced that you would like this series after the first book, as I was, you’ll definitely know after reading this one. I couldn’t put this one down! I loved it and I want more! More! More!
