Title: A Fractured Light (A Beautiful Dark #2) [Goodreads][Amazon]
Author: Jocelyn Davies
Publisher: HarperTeen
Format: ARC
Pages: 337
Release Date: September 25, 2012
In My Opinion: Add to cart!
One Line: Not as interesting as the first book, but still a decent read.

About the Book: When she wakes up in unfamiliar surroundings, Skye knows something terrible has happened to her. It’s not until she hears Asher, the dark, rebellious angel she fell in love with, that the memories come flooding back. She tries to put the past behind her, but she knows she’ll be forever haunted by the ruthless betrayal that almost took her life.

Skye returns home, but with the knowledge of who she really is, nothing can ever be the same. As she tests the limits of her newfound powers, Skye discovers that she’s capable of far more than anyone could have imagined. Both the Order and the Rebellion want her for their side as war between the factions looms. She can’t forget the terrifying truth she now knows about the Order, but something holds her back from embracing the Rebellion.

Believe me, I was dying to read this sequel after how much I fell in love with A Beautiful Dark. After the whirlwind mesmerization the first book put me under, I was hoping for some semblance of those feeling again, but I’d have to say this sequel didn’t live up to its predecessor. A Fractured Light is kind of like many sequels out there that are just “space fillers” until the climactic third book and although necessary and pertinent to the overall story, isn’t all that epic in it of itself.

This book revolves around Skye discovering more about herself and learning to harness the powers of Light and Dark within herself. She has to come to terms with both sides and decide which team, if any, she will fight for. Skye becomes a lot stronger through all this and you see her begin to think for herself and realize her destiny. Most of A Fractured Light deals with Skye’s inner struggles and there’s not a lot in the way of action, although you do meet a slew of new characters and learn a bit more about Skye’s parents and the war that’s going on.

My favorite parts would have to be anything with Asher in it since I’m totally a Team Asher kind of girl. The guy is not only charming and cute, he’s strong, funny, and genuinely cares for Skye. Granted, he is all about the Dark side and fighting this war and his passion for that sometimes overshadows his relationship with Skye, but he loves her and I love reading about their relationship. Devin isn’t as present in this book as the first, but he does show up at key points and I’m pretty sure Jocelyn hints at who Skye will eventually end up with. This isn’t a tale of epic love and all that, more like “cute love”, if that’s a thing (hopefully some of you will know what I mean), but it’s still fun to read and their whole chemistry was what drew me into this story in the first place.

I enjoyed this book, don’t get me wrong, but it wasn’t as engrossing as the first and I definitely didn’t feel that “I can’t put it down” emotion I had with the first book. I’m hoping that the third and final book in the series will be awesome, as some trilogies tend to be, and if anything else, I would really like to know how it all ends and who Skye chooses. If you liked this series to begin with you’ll want to pick this one up to see how things progress, but I might suggest waiting until the third book comes out so you can read it all at once. This one isn’t heavy on the “OMGness” and you’ll really want to know how it ends.

I haven’t read the first book yet, but it sounds good. I hate when the second book seems like a filler book. There’s really no need for that. Might as well make it a 2 book series if you don’t have enough to keep things interesting the whole way through I think. It does sound like you get a little bit out of this one though. Skye and Asher sound like great characters. Great review hon!!

IKR?!?! Haha, yea, there are a few series that I wish they would’ve just made two or even one book. I love Asher! You’ll have to check this series out when you have the time!

IKR?!! Why do so many 2nd books have to be fluff?!?! Sigh…I’m hoping the 3rd book will be better!
