Title: The Wild Ones [Goodreads][Amazon]
Author: M. Leighton

Release Date: August 1, 2012
In My Opinion: Add to cart!
One Line: A delightful contemporary romance that will have you begging for a “Trick’s treats”.
About the Book: Passion as hot as midnight in the South and love as wild as the horses they tame.
Camille “Cami” Hines is the darling daughter of the South’s champion thoroughbred breeder, Jack Hines. She has a pedigree that rivals some of her father’s best horses. Other than feeling a little suffocated at times, Cami thought she was pretty happy with her boyfriend, her life and her future.
But that was before she met Patrick Henley.
“Trick” blurs the lines between what Cami wants and what is expected of her. He’s considered the “help,” which is forbidden fruit as far as her father is concerned, not to mention that Trick would be fired if he ever laid a hand on her. And Trick needs his job. Desperately. His family depends on him.
The heart wants what the heart wants, though, and Trick and Cami are drawn to each other despite the obstacles. At least the ones they know of.
When Trick stumbles upon a note from his father, it triggers a series of revelations that could ruin what he and Cami have worked so hard to overcome. It turns out there’s more to Trick’s presence at the ranch than either of them knew, secrets that could tear them apart.
I have to say that I was a Michelle Leighton virgin before The Wild Ones, but I had heard of her before and desperately wanted to read her books. It’s a good thing I started with this one because I’m an instant fan and love her writing. Her characters captured my heart right from the beginning and her writing style is fresh and witty. I was laughing and smiling all throughout the whole book.
The romance and tension in this book was sizzling, but I also loved that Leighton’s characters were passionate and driven. Cami and Trick are both very talented and smart people who share a common love of horses and it’s through her father’s horse ranch, that their relationship develops further. Even though their circumstances are rough, and you find out their lives are more entwined that anyone would’ve guessed, I loved seeing them develop and the plot was so interesting, I basically devoured it. Even the secondary characters had me rolling with laughter and I couldn’t help but love them all.
Okay, now back to the romance! Boy, just Michelle know how to write a hot guy! Trick definitely knows how to make me swoon and even I was attracted right from the beginning, so obviously Cami couldn’t resist. Keep in mind that this is a story told from dual perspectives (a personal favorite type of mine), so it was nice diving into the minds of both characters and getting a better sense of where each is coming from. There were definitely plenty of swoon-worthy moments and it’s very tastefully written.
Overall, I’ve definitely become a fan of this series and Michelle. Once you pick up this book, you’ll find you won’t be able to put it down. Not only is it interesting, fun, and romantic; it’s also very breezy, yet heartfelt and a perfect addition to any library.
And, ICYMI, The Wild Ones is going to be a 3-book series, which makes me so happy. I can’t wait to see what’s next for all the characters.
