Title: Blood-Kissed Sky (Darkness Before Dawn #2) [Goodreads][Amazon]
Author: J.A. London
Release Date: December 26, 2012
In My Opinion: Must. Read. Now!
One Line: Just as good as the first, if not better, I devoured it!
About the Book: There’s nowhere left to hide.
I thought vampires were our enemies – they controlled our lives, isolated our cities, and demanded our blood – until I met Victor. With Victor taking over as the new Lord Valentine, things were supposed to get better. Instead, they’re worse than ever.
Day Walkers, a new breed of vampires who can walk in the sun, are terrorizing the city. Blood supplies are low, and if Victor’s vampires don’t get enough, they will become infected with the Thirst – a disease that will turn them into mindless killers.
To stop it, I must journey across the desolate wasteland to the very place where the sickness began. I can only hope that the answers that await me are enough to save us all… before it’s too late.
I knew I was an instant fan after reading Darkness Before Dawn, but I’m even more in love with the series after reading Blood-Kissed Sky. From the very first page I was engrossed and couldn’t put this one down until the end.
Blood-Kissed Sky starts off right after Darkness Before Dawn and ever since what happened right at the end of the last book, Dawn is noticing some changes going on inside her. The secret of her past and who she really is comes out in a big way and even though I kind of suspected it, I liked how it all unfolded and it was a great twist to the plot. There’s also a lot going on within the city since people are refusing to give blood, “the Thirst” is becoming more of a threat, and everyone is realizing there are a lot more Day Walkers than anticipated. Eventually Dawn must travel to L.A. to learn more about the Day Walkers and Sin, because that’s where he supposedly came from, and things become even more crazy. I loved it!
Victor and Dawn’s relationship is very complicated, but they can’t resist the pull they have towards each other. I really loved their playful banter and even though there weren’t enough swoony moments, I can never get enough of them, it was still a decent amount. Victor isn’t as present in person, but there’s a strong connection between him and Dawn which brings them together in ways they never expected. You’ll also see how intertwined their families really are. And even though Victor is quite swoon-worthy, you’ll slowly begin to question him and his motives. I’m interested in seeing where exactly London takes this relationship to.
I liked seeing more of the secondary characters like Michael, Tegen, Richard, and Faith. They each add a bit of flair to a dismal setting and they all care for Dawn in some way or other. We also get to meet some new characters on her journey to L.A. they definitely run into some exciting problems. Dawn is a pretty great lead character too and she grows and learns a lot in this book. There was definitely enough action, romance, and suspense to keep you glued to the book. It’s got everything!
Blood-Kissed Sky is an amazing and captivating sequel to an outstanding series. Oh, June can’t get here fast enough. I’m dying to get my hands on After Daybreak to see how it all ends.
