About the Book: Seven days. And seven rules to break…
District Attorney Vanessa McGregor firmly believes that structure and order are the stuff that dreams are made of. Happiness can be planned – and it starts with seven rules she’s laid out for her future. But as she’s organizing her best friend’s wedding in Hawaii, all of Vanessa’s best-laid plans are about to meet their match in a wickedly hot MMA fighter…
Jackson “Jax” Maris is focused on surfing, training and fighting. That is, until he opens up his big mouth, and finds himself having to pretend he’s engaged to his little sister’s best friend, Vanessa. When they’re force to share a romantic bungalow, however, their little charade suddenly takes a turn for the seriously sexy. And while Jax is definitely not part of Vanessa’s long-term plan, he has seven days – and seven naughty nights – to turn her seven-rule plan upside down.
When you say sexy romance in Hawaii? I’m SO there! Rules of Entanglement was such a great read and I enjoyed every minute of it. Gina is good at creating memorable characters and an entertaining plot. I loved Vanessa and Jackson’s funny and witty dialogue. They complemented each other very nicely and I easily fell for them as a couple. They had a lot of playful and fun scenes, and this was such a light and lively book, I couldn’t get enough.
Vanessa is a strong, independent, successful woman with a sharp tongue, but she’s also very guarded and a bit damaged. I loved her. She’s exactly the kind of female protagonist I tend to relate to and genuinely like. I definitely connected with her from the very beginning, especially since I have a very big issue with lying, like her. Her rules are sensible and understandable, and I liked that she knows what she wants and doesn’t beat around the bush. She’s also exceedingly confident and makes sure everyone knows it. One thing she is adamant about is that she doesn’t like to give up control, which Jackson slowly makes her do, in a good way. As you slowly get to see the softer side of Vanessa, you can’t help but feel for the girl and just want to give her a hug.
Jackson is one heck of a swoonworthy guy. I am really getting into these MMA fighters. What I loved about him was that not only is he sexy, he’s smart, laidback, funny, and oh-so charming. I could see him being one of those people you just can’t stay mad at, which was pretty much true for Vanessa. Their chemistry was pretty intense and I reveled in their intimate scenes. I loved the time and attention Jackson paid to Vanessa and how he was able to break through her walls and open her up to love and new experiences. He has some issues with his past, too, but they’re not as intense as Vanessa and I felt this story was definitely more about her than him, which was fine. Jackson does have his moments, my favorites being one involving a hammock (both times), a waterfall, and that perfect scene at his sister’s wedding. Oh, how I could easily fall for his man.
Rules of Entanglement keeps you glued to the pages and invested in these characters. I got swept up in the beauty of the islands and the heat of Vanessa and Jackson’s romance. Gina’s writing is intense and absorbing. If you love a good romance, a beautiful setting, and some hilarious moments, then you’ll easily enjoy this book.
