One Line: A very sexy read with a bit of a sweet side that I just loved.
About the Book: This soldier’s the perfect hoax…if she doesn’t fall for him first.
Stats whiz Kayla Moriarity knows her way around numbers and algorithms. Men, on the other hand, are unsolvable equations. Now Kayla’s en route to her sister’s wedding—alone and without the fictional boyfriend she invented for her family. Fortunately, her plane comes complete with complimentary cocktails and a ridiculously hot ex-marine in the seat beside her. And that’s all it takes for Kayla’s inhibitions to go sailing out the airlock…
Cooper Shillings has soft spot for people in trouble, but he certainly wasn’t expecting to land in it himself—and definitely not while getting naughty mid-air with a sexy southern belle. When he hears Kayla’s predicament, however, he offers his services as a stand-in boyfriend. After all, he’s heading overseas soon…and how could he refuse a little no-strings wickedness?
It’s the perfect plan. And all Kayla has to do is ensure her family falls for the ultimate bluff, without falling for it—and Cooper—in the process…
Of all the Brazens I’ve read, I’d say this one takes the cake for mixing a light-hearted and fun story with great characters and well-written steamy scenes. The characters were charming and sweet, with a good mix of naughtiness, which made me love this story. I thought Kayla was pretty adorable and quirky with her statistics and fear of flying. Cooper was such a nice and genuine guy, yet he also knew how to to make you sweat, in the good way. I don’t know why, but I was actually pretty surprised with how much I loved this book and how quickly I flew through it. While it’s often hard to me to enjoy a story without enough angst and substance, I think Alberts did a great job walking that line and her characters were just so likable, that I couldn’t help but fall for their romance.
Sure, the progression from the physical to the emotional was a bit rushed, but this novel was pretty short as is, and I think Alberts provided enough substance for me to really believe in their relationship, at least as a starter. I liked how Cooper and Kayla hit it off right from the start and that they set the boundaries of their relationship early on so things wouldn’t get confusing. Of course, you know how long that usually lasts in novels like this. I think being around Kayla’s family, especially during a wedding, was the perfect setting for how quickly they fell for each other. It kind of just fit. While I’ll admit, I didn’t like the abruptness of the so-called “game changer” moment for them as a couple, Alberts plays it out nicely, and it ended up not bothering me as much.
Temporarily Yours is definitely one of the fluffier reads as far as Brazens go, but Alberts does it well and fans of the “fake romance turned real” storyline will get a kick out of this one, for sure.
