Brody Markham has endured a nightmare, spending the last five years in prison and losing everything that was dear to him. Now he’s back home, trying to survive in a world he doesn’t recognize anymore. While his family and friends desperately try to reach through to him, he shelters himself further and further away from their love.
Alyssa Myers has worked her entire life to distance herself from the luxurious and privileged lifestyle in which she was raised. Running her non-profit agency, The Haven, she is content to spend her days helping abused animals find sanctuary, which fulfills her in a way that money just can’t buy.
Maybe it’s that she recognizes in Brody some of the same characteristics she sees in her homeless wards, but Alyssa is powerless to stop her personal quest to make Brody whole again.
While Brody struggles to surface from the darkness, Alyssa tries to protect her heart in case he’s not willing to accept the light that she offers him.

In My Opinion: Add to cart!
After falling hard for the first Markham twin in On the Rocks, I had to get my hands on Make it a Double and read all about Brody. I’m happy to say Bennett has done it yet again and I am in love with another of her boys, and even more in love with her writing and story-telling. In case you didn’t know, this lady has easily sealed her fate as one of my favorite authors ever!
Here we have Brody and Alyssa’s tale of romance and I have to say, I loved each character on their own, but I definitely loved their chemistry and interactions together. Poor Brody is trying to have some kind of a normal life after being in prison for 5 years. Alyssa is struggling to grow her non-profit animal shelter and fight off a crazy ex-boyfriend. I thought Bennett added some nice twists to each of their stories, even if the crazy ex story arc has been done before, I enjoyed how she played it out. I liked how Brody was so narrow-minded towards Alyssa at first, assuming she’s a stuck-up princess, and then seeing who she really is and finding this mutual respect for one another, in addition to the amazing sexual tension, it was awesome watching it. One of the favorite parts of this book was in regards to Brody’s inability to sleep past 5AM. Ever since prison, he’s just had this problem of sleeping late and getting up early. It doesn’t affect how he acts or anything, but it bugged Alyssa and I loved how she made sure to resolve it. It was a key example at how fun and charming their relationship is and I adored it.
If there’s one thing Bennett knows how to do, it’s making you care for her characters, fall in love with their stories, and she leaves you begging for more. Bennett always gets me with those epilogues, and she definitely did a sweet little number with this one. I devoured this book and I loved seeing familiar characters, too. I seriously can’t wait to read more from this series! If you need a good romance novel, you simply can’t go wrong with one of Bennett’s books! Loved this one to pieces!
About the Author: USA Today Best-Selling author, Sawyer Bennett, is a snarky southern woman and reformed trial lawyer who decided to finally start putting on paper all of the stories that were floating in her head. She is married to a mobster (well, a market researcher) and they have two big, furry dogs who hog the bed. Sawyer would like to report she doesn’t have many weaknesses but can be bribed with a nominal amount of milk chocolate.
