Two years ago, the aliens made contact. Now Cara Sweeney is going to be sharing a bathroom with one of them.

Handpicked to host the first-ever L’eihr exchange student, Cara thinks her future is set. Not only does she get a free ride to her dream college, she’ll have inside information about the mysterious L’eihrs that every journalist would kill for. Cara’s blog following is about to skyrocket.

Still, Cara isn’t sure what to think when she meets Aelyx. Humans and L’eihrs have nearly identical DNA, but cold, infuriatingly brilliant Aelyx couldn’t seem more alien. She’s certain about one thing, though: no human boy is this good-looking.

But when Cara's classmates get swept up by anti-L'eihr paranoia, Midtown High School suddenly isn't safe anymore. Threatening notes appear in Cara's locker, and a police officer has to escort her and Aelyx to class.

Cara finds support in the last person she expected. She realizes that Aelyx isn’t just her only friend; she's fallen hard for him. But Aelyx has been hiding the truth about the purpose of his exchange, and its potentially deadly consequences. Soon Cara will be in for the fight of her life—not just for herself and the boy she loves, but for the future of her planet.

One Line: One heck of a story that kept me glued to the pages!

In My Opinion: Add to cart!

I did not expect to love this book as much as I did, but I’m so happy I read it because it is awesome! I loved everything about this book, from the alien race, to the crazy humans who are against this alliance, to the captivating romance that Cara and Aelyx share. The pacing was great and everything flowed smoothly. I was easily engrossed in the the book about a third of the way in and then I couldn’t get things done quick enough so I could get back to reading this. Landers created a very intriguing world with an entertaining plot and two main characters who fall in love so seamlessly and so perfectly, you can’t help but root for them.

I loved Cara. She’s exactly the kind of female protagonist that I can relate to and genuinely like. She’s strong-willed with a bit of snark and she’s not afraid to stand up for what she believes is right, despite the whole world turning on her. That is not an easy feat for a teen to do and I loved how mature she was. Aelyx was a bit cold and stand-offish at first, which turned me off from him. I mean, there’s brooding, and then there’s just plain cold. But, he softened up easily while around Cara, and it worked for them. Cara has such a loving and charismatic personality, it’s hard not to love her. Their romance was quite a slow and steady burn and man, when things heated up, they HEATED UP! And boy were those moments both sizzling, and at times, a bit funny.

The crazy people of Earth, always hating what they don’t understand. Granted, you shouldn’t totally trust an alien race, but we can handle it in a civilized way, right?! Wrong! Things go bad really quickly in this book as people become more paranoid and fearful of the L’eihrs and though they have some good reason for it, just the way the extremists handle it drove me insane. In a good way though.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book and have high hopes for the next one. It’s going to be tough as these two star-crossed lovers will be separated for much of it, I can tell, but I’m hoping Landers will still be able to wow me with her writing and whatever plot she’s got cooked up for the next installment. Either way, Alienated is a great start to a promising series. If you’re a sci-fi fan, you have to give this book a try. Loved it!
