four-half-stars

Stop me if you’ve heard this one before: girl meets player, they fall in love, player changes his ways.

It’s a good story. But it’s not our story. Ours is a lot more colorful.

When I met Dee I knew right away that she was special. When she met me, she thought I was anything but special—I was exactly like every other guy who’d screwed her over and let her down. It took some time to convince her otherwise, but turns out I can make a convincing argument when sex is at stake.

You might know where this story’s headed. But the best part isn't where we ended up.

It’s how we got there.

I received this book for free from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

Also in this series: Twisted, Tied
Also by this author: Twisted, Tied, Overruled, Sustained, Appealed

One Line: A wonderful contemporary romance with fantastic characters.

In My Opinion: Add to cart!

I gotta admit, Emma Chase knows how to write a sexy, hilarious, witty, and highly-entertaining novel. She nabbed me good with Tangled, but with Tamed, she’s solidified her place as one of my favorite Contemporary Romance authors. I just can’t get enough of her charming characters and addicting writing style. I swear, each time I’m reading her books, it’s like the character is talking straight to me. I really feel like I’m in the moment, and I revel in it. I didn’t think I’d like Matthew as much as Drew, but, if it’s possible, I love him even more!

Matthew is every bit the playboy like Drew, and he has no shame in it, but whereas Drew can be a bit of jerk with women, Matthew is a bit of a sweetheart and he’s pretty upfront about what he wants. He’s also very driven and dedicated. I love that even though he’s somewhat of a player, he’s also a decent guy who cares immensely about his friends and family. I really loved being in his head and thoroughly enjoyed his character all throughout the book. Once he realized how much he wanted Dee, he stopped at nothing to win her over and help her overcome her inner demons. He was so kind and patient with her, especially during those times where even I wanted to smack some sense into her. He definitely has a charming quality to him that I simply adored.

Dee, on the other hand, I both liked and disliked. Her personality is great. I like that she goes with the flow and isn’t afraid to show people who she really is. She doesn’t care what people think of her, except when it comes to relationships. She’s had people disappoint and deceive her in the past, so she’s pretty jaded, and that came up a lot during her struggling relationship with Drew. She has serious trust issues, and the way she handled them was pretty dramatic. I also loved how fiercely protective she was about Kate and their friendship. And funny, in a way only Emma can write.

I also loved seeing bits and pieces of Drew and Kate’s relationship develop throughout this book. It was fun to see it from their friend’s perspective, looking in, and knowing what was really going on. And, I swear, I just adore Mackenzie to the fullest. She’s the best!

Like I said, I really enjoy Emma’s writing and her characters. She easily captures my attention and interest and keeps it until the end. I breezed right through this book and was left wanting more. There’s plenty of good drama and romance, mixed with witty and fun dialogue that will have you smiling the whole time you’re reading this book. I loved this so much and seriously can’t wait for more from this author.

About Emma Chase

By day, Emma Chase is a devoted wife and mother who resides in a small town in New Jersey. By night she is a keyboard crusader, toiling away the hours to bring her colorful characters and their endless antics to life. She has a long standing love/hate relationship with caffeine.

Emma is an avid reader. Before her children were born she was known to consume whole books in a single day. Writing has also always been a passion and with the 2013 release of her debut romantic comedy, Tangled, the ability to now call herself an author is nothing less than a dream come true.
