I first heard about CLEARinse while I was attending the Biggest Baby Shower event in NYC and I was definitely interested in seeing how this system worked for babies and kids suffering from stuffy noses and congestion.
Their website boasts “Clearinse uses a custom pump system that creates similar flow and pressure settings used in hospitals to clear noses. It is the only device that both irrigates and aspirates the nose, making the recommended procedure more streamline and easy to perform.”
While I was hesitant about spraying water into my child’s nose, I was understood that it was a supposedly safe process and I wanted to give it a try. I mean, people have been using salt water irrigation and suction for congestion for the longest time and even though I’ve never tried it, I was open to the idea.
I decided to test this out on myself first. Even though the product is designed for babies, you can easily use it for yourself, and I wanted to see how it worked before I tried it on the kids. When the saline water sprays into your nose, it’s very gentle and, really, only a small amount goes in (not enough to cause your child to choke or anything). I found it a little hard to get the irrigating button to work right, but after a few tries, I got used to it.
The aspiration part was pretty loud, louder than I initially thought, but it does the job! You can barely feel the sucking motion and it’s not uncomfortable at all. I really liked the gentleness and ease of use that the CLEARinse provides and after a few tries, it definitely eased up my congestion (I have allergies), even if only for a short time. I also like that it’s mess-free and quick.
Overall, I’d recommend this product, if you can afford it, as an easy and efficient way of de-clogging those congested little noses, especially since Fall and Winter are right around the corner. Whether you’re a stranger to nasal irrigation or not, I think you’ll find this product highly useful as a parent.
