One more game. And this time, there are no rules…
After a life of pool hustling and living on the wrong side of the law, Ruby Elliott is living on the straight and narrow with sexy-as-all-hell NYPD detective, Troy Bennett. Now the only trouble Ruby has with the law is the naughty kind, pinned against the wall by Troy's strict and spectacularly hard body. Obeying his every command. Both of them losing themselves in a lust that borders on obsession...
But then her father returns with an offer she can’t refuse: one last hustle in exchange for information. Information she’d die to have. As the pieces and the players of the game reveal themselves, Troy feels the fine edges of his control slipping—control he can’t channel without hurting Ruby. The stakes are high, and the risk higher. Because losing this final game could cost more than Ruby’s heart…it might cost her life.
I received this book for free from The Publisher in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. Also in this series: Risking It All, Up in Smoke
Also by this author: Unfixable, Owned by Fate, Risking It All, Chase Me, Need Me, Up in Smoke, Make Me, Crashed Out, Rough Rhythm, Thrown Down, Too Hot To Handle, Too Close to Call
One Line: Just about as intense and emotional as Troy and Ruby can get!
In My Opinion: Add to cart!
If you loved Troy and Ruby in His Risk to Take, you’ll love seeing their story continue in Riskier Business. Things aren’t smoothly sailing for this couple, who are still trying to co-exist when one demands control while the other is used to the free-spirited life. As per her usual, Bailey does not disappoint and packs a bunch of action, intrigue, romance, and dirty-talking into a wee little book. Even though I knew what was going to happen, I knew what secrets the characters would find out, and I knew that things would be okay in the end, it didn’t make this any less of an great read. It was all fun and games seeing Troy and Ruby fall in love in their first book, but this book had so much more of everything – passion, trust, angst, danger and just tested their relationship on a whole other level.
Troy is all about the control and all about protecting Ruby. I’ll admit, he does go a bit overboard with all that, but he means well. He did piss me off at one moment at the beginning, but he makes up for it along the way. Of course, his brutish tendencies don’t go over too well with Ruby, who, despite knowing how dangerous her life is, isn’t willing to let Troy control her life. I loved that she stood up for herself and demanded to be treated like an equal and not like a porcelain doll. They butted heads quite a bit in this book, which both excited me and broke my heart at times. The intensity of their relationship is truly palpable.
All I’m saying is, the stakes are a lot higher for both of them in this book and not everyone makes it out unharmed. Does this couple have what it takes to set aside their proclivities and just be together for the sake of love and respect? I like to think that they do, but you’ll have to read to find out. Oh, and by the way, I just loved seeing some of my favorite characters from the Line of Duty series making cameos in this book. Always fun times with that gang. Riskier Business is an excellent transition into Bailey’s new spin-off series and one you’d be crazy not to read.
