NYPD detective Seraphia Newsom will avenge her brother’s death at any cost. Even if it means insinuating herself into a rough, Brooklyn street gang and going so far undercover, she’s not sure she’ll be able to get out. Every minute she spends in their midst means the clock ticking down on her life, especially when she overhears something that could get her killed.

Bowen Driscol is the heir to a crime enterprise. He never asked for the job, but with his father behind bars, he has no choice but to step in and keep the operation running. But when the NYPD blackmails him with a piece of damning information in exchange for aiding an undercover cop, he finds himself on the other side of the law for the first time in his life.

Bowen knows the danger Sera is in, and keeping her safe trumps saving his own ass. The problem? She can’t know he’s on her side. And there's the matter of the seriously inconvenient heat sparking between them that's incinerating his resistance. But Sera only sees Bowen's past, and men like him are the reason her brother is dead. If they're to get out alive, he'll have to risk exposing the man beneath, and hope to hell he doesn't blow the whole operation in the process.

I received this book for free from The Publisher in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

One Line: The moment these two characters met, BAM! I was hooked! Bowen kept me smiling and swooning the whole time. So irresistible!

In My Opinion: Must. Read. NOW!

Good lord, this book was all kinds of amazing! I love it when a book just knocks you off your feet, especially when you least expect it. Of course, how could I expect anything less from Tessa? She pulled out all the stops with Risking It All and created such outstanding characters that I couldn’t get enough of. Their chemistry was so off-the-charts HOT, they might as well be living on the sun, for real. Above all, there’s a reason why Tessa Bailey is the Queen of Dirty-Talkers, and she proves that yet again in this book. I’ll take a paintbrush and photo booth session with him any day of the week. Sweet Jesus, Bowen is a force to be reckoned with!

Like I said, these two characters just just plain perfect. The innocent, sweet, church-loving personality of Sera meshed so well with Bowen’s rough-edged, street-wise, alpha-male one, I couldn’t help but revel in their connection. They were exactly what each other needed, a believable balance of sorts that had me rooting for them as a couple from the very beginning. Often times, in books like these, it’s just about the attraction, but what I love about Bailey and her books is that it’s so much more than that. Her characters were written specifically for each other, in the emotional and meaningful sense as well as in the physical sense. Sera and Bowen couldn’t have been more perfect for each other.

I loved how Bowen had me fanning myself one second, and tilting my head, swooning and sighing, the next. Some of the things he said had me melting, I was practically putty in his fictional hands. I’ve always said that Derek from the Line of Duty series was my favorite Bailey Boy, but he might have just been dethroned by Bowen – and that’s saying something!

It’s crazy because the timeline is basically only a week, and not much happens in the way of action, but then again, SO much happens between these two characters that changes them irrevocably. So many times my heart broke for Bowen and all the self-deprecating thoughts he had for himself. And how much he cared for Sera was so touching. Everything played out perfectly and Tessa rattled so many emotions in me while reading this. I never get this caught up reading this kind of book, but Risking It All did that to me, and so much more. Yep, I think these are have definitely made my list of “favorite book couples”, that’s for sure.

It’s not often I get that feeling where I want to simultaneously devour a book, yet also savor it page by page. This was one of those times. I was like a greedy kid in a candy store, not wanting this book to end! Also, I don’t normally get book hangovers from contemporary novels, but this one had me seriously hung over! I couldn’t stop thinking about these fantastic characters and their love story. It was also a bonus seeing Troy and Ruby again. And, oh my god! That ending!!!!!!! I just couldn’t help the cheesy smile I had plastered all over my face when I read it. I loved how she brought everything around, full circle. Well played, Tessa Bailey, well played. I am just all kinds of excited for the rest of this series, I can’t wait! Please, Tessa, give me the next book NOW! I need more!

About Tessa Bailey

Tessa Bailey is originally from Carlsbad, California. The day after high school graduation, she packed her yearbook, ripped jeans and laptop, driving cross-country to New York City in under four days.

Her most valuable life experiences were learned thereafter while waitressing at K-Dees, a Manhattan pub owned by her uncle. Inside those four walls, she met her husband, best friend and discovered the magic of classic rock, managing to put herself through Kingsborough Community College and the English program at Pace University at the same time. Several stunted attempts to enter the work force as a journalist followed, but romance writing continued to demand her attention.

She now lives in Brooklyn, New York with her husband of seven years and three-year-old daughter. Although she is severely sleep-deprived, she is incredibly happy to be living her dream of writing about people falling in love.
