AN UPTIGHT BRITISH EXECUTIVE. AN ADVENTUROUS AMERICAN NEWBIE. A SEXY INTERNATIONAL SCANDAL IN THE MAKING.
When Ruby Miller’s boss announces he’s sending her on an extended business trip to New York City, she’s shocked. As one of the best and brightest young engineers in London, she knows she’s professionally up to the task. The part that’s throwing her is where she’ll be spending a month up close and personal working alongside—and staying in a hotel with—Niall Stella, her firm’s top urban planning executive and The Hottest Man Alive. Despite her ongoing crush, Ruby is certain Niall barely knows she’s alive…until their flirty overnight flight makes him sit up and take notice.
Not one for letting loose and breaking rules, recently divorced Niall would describe himself as hopeless when it comes to women. But even he knows outgoing California-girl Ruby is a breath of fresh air. Once she makes it her mission to help the sexy Brit loosen his tie, there’s no turning back. Thousands of miles from London, it’s easy for the lovers to play pretend. But when the trip is over, will the relationship they’ve built up fall down?

One Line: Quirky characters and a slow-burning romance made this quite an awesome read.
In My Opinion: Add to cart!
Ah, how I love a good Christina Lauren book. These two ladies have such a way with words and their characters always stand out to me. I have loved each book in this series and it’s not often that I’d like them equally, but that’s definitely the case here. Well, I have to say that Max Stella has my heart, but as far as storylines go, each one in the series is equally entertaining and enjoyable. Beautiful Secret is no different. While I will say that I was expecting a different kind of story, CL still doesn’t disappoint.
So yes, Beautiful Secret was very different from the rest of the series, but not in a bad way. While Niall and Ruby’s relationship was almost as intense as the rest of the gang, their romance was more of a slow-burn with quite a learning curve in the way of love. Their relationship was pretty tame compared to their predecessors, but there’s still a good mix of kinky stuff. Now getting to the actual sex? That took quite a LONG time, and it was pure torture!
Niall has only ever been with his ex-wife, his childhood sweetheart, and while he can have quite the filthy mind when given the chance, it takes a lot of effort to bring it out of him. I wouldn’t call him uptight, just reserved and naive. In all honesty, he did frustrate me at times with how hesitant he was with his relationship with Ruby. CL totally flipped the table on us and tt was very different seeing the guy being so innocent and cautious. Ruby was the perfect person to bring him out of his comfort zone, being the daughter of not one, but two psychologists, and I think she balanced his character very nicely.
I honestly loved Ruby so much, maybe even more so than Niall. She was just so open, funny, considerate, and pretty well-put together. Being inside her head was so entertaining and her thoughts about Niall were so hilarious. She was exceedingly patient and forgiving of Niall while he struggled with his feelings for her and I have to give her credit, I don’t know if I could’ve been so nice about how he acted some of the time. But, that girl really loves him. I did appreciate how she handled things in the end after their inevitable fallout. At times I felt like she could be a little too accommodating of Niall, but she was also true to herself in the end, which made me love her even more.
Every bit as addicting and delightful as the rest of the series, you’ll find it hard not to fall for CL’s characters. Their writing style just grabs at you and always finds a way to make your heart happy. I was exceptionally happy to see some of the characters from the previous books, especially Max, and I loved the crossover moments from CL’s other series, Wild Seasons. An all-around good read! I loved it!
