Dawn Freeze had a huge crush on Hawk Rain for years, and the entire town knows it. It's understandable―the man is total hotness. That tall, lean body. Intense dark eyes. And always one foot out the door. Now he's on leave for exactly one week. And this time, he's made it crystal clear that he only wants one thing. Her.
Hawk's been fighting his attraction to Dawn for as long as he can remember. She's his best friend's little sister, and that means hands-off. Except now she's all grown up, and her sweet sexiness is exactly what he craves. But just as Hawk allows himself one mindblowingly intense night with Dawn, he learns that everyone he loves is in danger. Especially her.
And the only way to protect Dawn is to push her away...

One Line: It was nice to see Dawn get her HEA.
In My Opinion: Add to cart!
Zanetti has managed to attract and hold my attention with this Brazen series and I’ve loved getting to know the Lodge and Freeze siblings. Their family is the best, so welcoming, caring, and close. After seeing the brothers get their HEA, it was time to see if the baby girl of the group, Dawn, will get hers. She sets her sight on her brother’s best friend, Hawk, is a bit damaged and over-protective, but also a sweetheart. Their romance is the talk of their town and it was very hilarious how all the little old women tried their darndest to get these two together. The old folks were definitely the fun part of this book and I’ve come to realize that the characters in this town love being meddlers and they’re very determined when they want something. When I first started this series, it was a bit too much, but after three books, it’s become a bit endearing and comical.
Dawn has pined for Hawk for so many years, but he’s been going in and out of town for years as a military personnel working on covert missions. He’s a bit damaged from that experience, obviously, and believes that a relationship with Dawn could never work, despite having strong feelings for her as well. After not being able to deny his feelings for her any longer, he decides to give it a go and their relationship is all kinds of hot. However, while the chemistry is obviously there, I thought the transition of their relationship was bit shaky and inconsistent. One minute they want things to work, the next they’re not really together. It’s like they were playing this game of no-strings-attached sex, but also wanting a commitment. It didn’t mesh well.
Also, the drama and danger that Zanetti tried to convey for these two wasn’t as fleshed out as I was hoping for. A lot of the book was focused the townspeople meddling in their romance and them trying to make things work, so the danger aspect of the storyline fell by the wayside until it suddenly rushed to the forefront without any warning. It didn’t bother me too much but, definitely stopped me from loving it.
The Maverick Montana series has managed to keep me entertained, although its far from my favorite series from this imprint. My favorite book in this series would definitely have to be the first book, but this one wasn’t bad. The characters are the best part of the books and even though the stories are a bit cliche, they’re lively and amusing. Dawn and Hawk’s love story is far from perfect, but I loved watching them try to make it work. I really like Zanetti’s style in general and can easily see myself reading more of her books.
