The rugged men of the Carolina Cold Fury hockey team are winning hearts once again in another scorching novel from New York Times bestselling author Sawyer Bennett.

The stakes have never been higher for Carolina Cold Fury goalie Ryker Evans. With his contract running out, he’s got a year left to prove he’s still at the top of his game. And since his wife left him, Ryker has been balancing life as a pro-hockey star and a single parent to two daughters. Management is waiting for him to screw up. The fans are ready to pounce. Everybody’s taking dirty shots—except for the fiery redhead whose faith in Ryker gives him a fresh start.

As the league’s only female general manager, Gray Brannon has learned not to mix business with pleasure. And yet even this tough, talented career woman can’t help breaking her own rules as she gives Ryker everything she’s got. She hopes their hot streak will last forever, but with Ryker’s conniving ex plotting to reclaim her man, the pressure’s on Gray to step up and save a tender new love before it’s too late.

I received this book for free from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

In My Opinion: Add to cart!

I just knew I would like this book. Sawyer has yet to let me down and I could already tell that Ryker would be someone I’d love to get to know. While Zack will always be my favorite of the Cold Fury team, Ryker is such a sweetheart, you can’t help but fall for him. When I think of this book and its characters, the one word that comes to mind is – mature. Gray and Ryker had such a calm, mature, albeit scorching hot, and understanding relationship. It felt so natural for them to be together. They did have to keep their relationship a secret because of their roles on the team, but they handled everything so gracefully and the amount of respect and love they had for each other was just oozing off the pages.

Ryker, the father of two adorable girls, is very level-headed. I loved how he took on the role of single dad with such oomph. He loves his girls so much and you can tell he does his best to create a stable and loving home for them. I loved watching him care for them. He also took that cool and collected attitude with him when it came to the team. A lot of people questioned his ability because of his age and his attitude because he got into a fight with a teammate in the past. He took it all in stride and he never let it get to him, which I appreciated about him and his personality. The same goes for his relationship with Gray. You could tell the guy fell pretty hard, pretty fast for Gray, and he was never the one to do flings or no-strings-attached, but it was great seeing how understanding and self-sacrificing he was when it came to Gray. He is such a sweetheart and like a rough-around-the-edges teddy bear you just want to hug…and do other things to. Things definitely went from zero to sexy times in a heartbeat with these two, but they’ve known each other for awhile and the sexual tension was always there, so it fit with them.

Gray wasn’t bad either. I liked her analytical mind and how strong she was as a woman and a character. In a male-dominated industry, she has a lot of people against her, but she has such a strong support system with her father, who I really liked, and then with Ryker, it was great watching her show everyone her stuff.

I am seriously going to miss this crew of sexy, yet sweet hockey players. Each one has melted my heart in a different way and I loved watching them fall in love. If you’re already a fan of this series, you’ll want to meet Ryker, for sure. If you haven’t started it yet, you seriously need to, because these guys are not to be missed.
