Of course, I had to create a guide for the kids. Now, this is based off of toys for girls, since that’s what I’m an expert at. Really, it’s the toys and such that I know my kids have been asking for and what I believe will be a hit in any household with girls. I have to mention that even though they’re technically “girls toys” I see nothing wrong with boys playing with or wanting them. My own nephew loves playing with/collecting one of the items I listed below, so no shame here!
Playskool Friends My Little Pony Musical Celebration CastleI discovered these adorable little toys after attending the Philly Mom Mixer in October and I am in love. Even though my girls aren’t quite into MLP anymore, I just had to grab this playset for BG3 for Christmas. It’s so cute! I love how Playskool created toddler-friendly versions of the ponies. I can totally see BG3 nomming on them like she does the Playskool Disney princess set she has. I’m asking my sister to buy her the collector pack with more MLP figurines as well. So cute!
ShopkinsEasily the biggest obsession of both older girls (and one of their aunts) right now and for the last year, pretty much. Shopkins is pretty much a staple in my house and the girls have made it their mission to collect every playset and character there is. Sure, my house is riddled with these cute, yet annoyingly small foot traps/choking hazards, but I can definitely see the appeal. It’s nice that the girls still like these toys and play with them on occasion and I like that they keep coming out with new characters with each “season” and updating the look and feel of the shopping baskets and bags. It’s hard not to find a lot them cute.
Shopkins ShoppiesIn-keeping with the Shopkins theme, the company recently released figurines/dolls that kids can use to play along with their Shopkins. The dolls are pretty adorable and reasonable priced for dolls. They’re exclusive to Toys R Us and are actually sold out online, but hopefully, if this is on your list, you can find them at your local TRU. I’m so happy I bought them when they first came out as I knew they would be sold out soon.
Disney’s Descendants Mal & Evie DollsDescendants was the hit TV movie this summer from Disney and my girls loved it. BG2 was Evie for Halloween, too. I love the look of the dolls and the accessory they each come with. Yes, BG2 has seen the commercials for them and has asked repeatedly for them for Christmas. If your kid is a fan of the movie, these dolls should definitely be on your list.
Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Old School
Life was better in the old days. Or was it?
That’s the question Greg Heffley is asking as his town voluntarily unplugs and goes electronics-free. But modern life has its conveniences, and Greg isn’t cut out for an old-fashioned world.
With tension building inside and outside the Heffley home, will Greg find a way to survive? Or is going “old school” just too hard for a kid like Greg?
BG1 is still a big fan of Wimpy Kid and this is the newest release from Jeff Kinney. I actually recently bought this for her birthday and she was so happy to get it. BG1 isn’t much of a reader in general, but this series is easily a favorite of hers, so I know that it’ll appeal to the masses.
Dork Diaries 10: Tales From a Not-So-Perfect Pet Sitter
Nikki and her friends Brandon, Chloe, and Zoey are teamed up on an important mission in the tenth book in the #1 New York Times bestselling Dork Diaries series.
Nikki has to hide seven ADORKABLE puppies from two parents, one nosy little sister, an entire middle school, and…one mean girl out for revenge, Mackenzie Hollister. If anyone can do it, it’s Nikki…but not without some hilarious challenges along the way!
The latest installment in the Dork Diaries series, this is another favorite of BG1’s. I also got this book for her for her birthday and she loves it. It’s pretty similar to Dork Diaries with the look and appeal, but I also like the story and the characters.
Calico CrittersThis is a favorite of BG2’s and one she repeatedly begs me to get her. FYI, I’ve designated this toy to one of her aunts. I like that these toys have a sort of antique-y look to it. Of course, that is probably lost on a 4 year old, but the characters are pretty cute nonetheless. If you search online, there are extensive sets and character packs that go with this line of toys.
Pinypon Apartment PlaysetAnother “hot ticket item” for BG2. For months BG2 would mention and beg for Pinypon dolls. I have to admit, this set and the dolls in general are pretty pricey given that the toys themselves are pretty simple, but BG2 loves watching YouTube videos of people playing with them and all that. I’m trying to see if another aunt of theirs can get her a set of dolls, which is considerably cheaper than the playset. I mean, she just likes the dolls and the playset shouldn’t matter, right?
And because I do have a nephew, I’ve included what he wants for Christmas as an idea for those of you looking for a gift for a young boy.
Skylander’s SuperChargers Starter Pack (PS3)My nephew is still into Skylander’s an action-adventure video game and I like that it comes with collectible figurines kids can use to interact with the game. This is just the starter pack that includes: Videogame, Portal of Power, 2 Skylanders SuperChargers Characters, 1 Skylanders SuperChargers Vehicle, and 1 Collection Poster.
I’d hold out for a good deal, Target and Amazon are not bad, just FYI.
So, what do you think of the list? Any ideas you like for the kid in your life?
