The highly anticipated sequel to the instant New York Times bestseller that critics are calling “out-of-this-world awesome.”
Moving to a space station at the edge of the galaxy was always going to be the death of Hanna’s social life. Nobody said it might actually get her killed.
The sci-fi saga that began with the breakout bestseller Illuminae continues on board the Jump Station Heimdall, where two new characters will confront the next wave of the BeiTech assault.
Hanna is the station captain’s pampered daughter; Nik the reluctant member of a notorious crime family. But while the pair are struggling with the realities of life aboard the galaxy’s most boring space station, little do they know that Kady Grant and the Hypatia are headed right toward Heimdall, carrying news of the Kerenza invasion.
When an elite BeiTech strike team invades the station, Hanna and Nik are thrown together to defend their home. But alien predators are picking off the station residents one by one, and a malfunction in the station’s wormhole means the space-time continuum might be ripped in two before dinner. Soon Hanna and Nik aren’t just fighting for their own survival; the fate of everyone on the Hypatia—and possibly the known universe—is in their hands.
But relax. They’ve totally got this. They hope.
Once again told through a compelling dossier of emails, IMs, classified files, transcripts, and schematics, Gemina raises the stakes of the Illuminae Files, hurling readers into an enthralling new story that will leave them breathless.

I received this book for free from The Publisher in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

Also in this series: Illuminae
Also by this author: This Shattered World, Illuminae

One Line: Fan-freaking-tastic! Just as amazing as the first book!

In My Opinion: Must. Read. NOW!

Kaufman and Kristoff have blown me away yet again with Gemina. I loved every minute of this amazing book and this story just keeps getting better. Just like with Illuminae, you’ve got two main characters that come together for a common cause – to fight off the BeiTech bad guys. At first, I was a little sad that this book wouldn’t be about the two main characters from the first book, but that was short-lived. Hanna and Nik were just plain awesome, especially Hanna, and I honestly couldn’t get enough of them.

You want to talk about kickass female protagonists?! That is Hanna Donnelly. From start to finish, this girl did not disppoint. She knows how to fight, is a quick-thinker, and is caring and compassionate. There were so many moments that stood out to me with Hanna that has turned her into one of my favorite female characters. Nik isn’t bad either. He’s not as prominent as Hanna, but his moments were good, too. His affection toward Hanna was so cute and I really liked seeing how their relationship developed. Let me just say one word…sugar. WOW!

Also, one of my favorite lines ever:

“You might get only one shot. So shoot. You know who said that? Hanna Fucking Donnelly. That’s who.”

The plot itself kept me on my toes and glued to the pages. There were so many times I was upset that I had to put the book done, you know of because LIFE, and I’d get so excited once I was able to pick it back up again. Those 600 pages flew by! Granted, a lot of those pages had illustrations and such on them, but still. The book is filled with a lot of predictable moments, but also a lot of surprises, so it’s really a good mix of everything you would hope for in a great book. There’s definitely a lot of technical and scientific stuff, a lot of theories that are present in the world today and some that the authors embellished on, but they did a great job explaining things.

This series has yet to disappoint me, and I doubt the third and last book will. In fact, I’m positive it will amaze me just as much as its predecessors, leading this to be one of my all-time favorite series ever! The Illuminae Files is one you really don’t want to miss out on. If for nothing else, you need to read this book for the way that they present it. The reading style is so fantastic and unique and the illustrations and graphics are on point. I became so engrossed in this sci-fi world and after I didn’t want to leave it. It’s really unlike anything else I’ve ever read and I was greatly amused and entertained the whole time I was reading this. Gemina was one of my most anticipated books this year and I’ll be waiting very impatiently for the third book next year.
